Wet - Cold - Fun | Jr Girls Mt ALPHA Tuesday Night Ride Update

Dirt + Girls + Bikes = Rad

Tuesday night Jr's Ride was cold, wet and fun.

We met early to beat the sun setting at the Linclon Hills trail head. My plan was to ride where it is open and if we get caught with a wreck or injury that our exit plan off the mountain would be in the open without a technical descent in the dark. (you never know)

Ouch
Luckily the only carnage was me. We road up Side-Winder and I was showing the girls how to deal with a technical rocky spot and endo-ed into my head. No real injury, just a bloody knee. But, I do need a new helmet.

The girls just love getting dirty. I was a bit concerned about all the wet puddles on the blind corners in case someone peeled out, but everyone rocked the single track smoothly.

These girls will be my helpers at the Free Women's Mountain Bike clinic on Thursday. They are no longer beginners and have awesome cycling vocabulary. "Stezie, Drop-it, Endo, Flowy, Bombing" ect.....

Mt Alpha Ladies - Claire, Jen, Kristine and Sarah

It was pretty awesome to get back be back with my MT ALPHA ladies and see old bike friends at the Clinic hosted by Montana Cyclocross. Of course Shaun Radley did a great job organizing all the coaches into 4 sections of skills.
Special thanks to Missoula Bicycle Works and Hellgate Cyclery for your help and coaching.

Jr Girls first Mountain Bike Race | 6 hour Relay for Breast Cancer

Wa-hooooo! All my coaching pays off Big! Look at these strong girls!
I am so proud of them!

      This is huge for me!
As a Specialized Women's Bike Ambassador - this is what I have been working toward all summer.
To get all these girls that come to my weekly ride to experience their first race and have it be a fun and successful event. I couldn't be prouder of them! 2nd place as a group relay team and they raised money for Breast Cancer.

1st Annual Pedal Pink MT bike race.

Instead of racing each other, they got to race as a team.

It was also great to be apart of at fundraising effort where all proceeds benefit Tough Enough To Wear Pink of Montana. TETWP provides funding for breast cancer awareness, education, screening, support, and further diagnosis for Montana Men and Women.

The race was up at Lubrecht Experimental Forest, and classifications include QUAD, DUO, and SOLO for both guys and gals competing. Teams with mixed participants will compete in men's class.

      • 8 mile loops where 25% single track, 25% fire-road, 50% double track = 100% good times.
I was the only woman to register solo, so since I didn't have any competition, I decided to coach my girls on each lap. Racing is way different than a group ride, so it was a perfect opportunity to coach them about energy management, breathing control, starts, down hilling, climbing and cornering.

I have never witnessed the girls riding harder than they did at the race. Each one was full of fire and totally focused. It was truly inspiring!

It was a crisp cold morning day of the race. I came prepared with blankets, beanbag chairs, pillow and tons of food.
6 hour races are a full day.

I wish I had photos of the girls racing, but I was racing too, so no images of them killing it.
Take my word for it.....They rode with heart!

      I love my girls!

Special thanks to Specialized Women for all your support. These girls are champs because of you picked me to represent you. I am so grateful for the receiving the opportunity to influence the next generation of female riders.

Dixie Trix Bike Jam at Outlaws of Dirt, Colorado

Jen competing at Dixie Trix Dirt Jam at Outlaws of Dirt. Frisco Bike Park, Colorado

      How rad was this?
      SO RAD!
In August, our family traveled to Colorado to ride at Frisco Bike Park just outside of Breckenridge in the heart of the rockie mountains.
It was amazing to have a week at such high elevations to mountain bike.
I signed up for Dixie Trix & the Women's Dirt Jump Jam with Outlaws of Dirt.

These were all the courses we worked on before the Women's Jam.
        • DIRT JUMPS (all sizes)
        • PUMPTRACK
        • SLOPESTYLE/GRAVITY JUMP LINES (all sizes)
        • SLALOM COURSE

      My Specialized Rumor kicked Butt!
I am so happy to report that not only can this bike kill it on long cross country mountain bike trails, steep crazy down hilling, but it also is awesome for Dirt Jumping!

A real high light for me was riding with so many cool girls.
      These girls were studs.
They pushed it on all the jumps and went big!!!

Jen landing her Rumor during the Dirt Jump Jam

Jen so happy to learn from Kat Sweet - She is one of the main catalysts of the women's freeride movement and becoming a highly recognized face in this new era of mountain biking. Her creativity on and off the bike combined with her undying love of the sport and helping others makes Kat the super star that she is today. She is an inspiration to kids, dads, moms, or anyone who might think they are past the age of being able to learn new skills on a bike.
Jen stoked to be with legend Dirt Jumper and organizer Tammy Donahugh.
